Rimowa flagship store

At the beginning of 2017, Rimowa, the German suitcase manufacturer and member of the LVMH Group, opened its first ever flagship store. Located in Paris, the structure is the largest Rimowa store in the world with a display space of 600 m2 spread over 5 floors.

The concept, designed by Atelier Oï, takes its inspiration from the world of civil aviation. Even if the store is dedicated primarily to shopping, there are also other facilities for customers, including a cinema room showing a film about the “Junkers F13” sponsored by the brand. The use of aluminium and distinctive grooving that characterise Rimowa suitcases are both inspired by the Junkers F13, an aeroplane that marked the beginning of civil aviation history in 1919. The Paris store has a sharp, pure design and its architectural features, like the curved false ceiling that has an almost futurist, plane-like style, are highlighted by Underscore luminaires inserted in channels in the ceiling. Underscore luminaires are also used to emphasize the length of the interiors that feature the brand's classic corrugated aluminium style. This fine line of light runs up the stairs and across all five floors, drawing visitors behind it, like Ariadne's thread.

In general, the lighting system is an expert combination of even diffuse lighting created by Reflex recessed luminaires and accent highlights produced by iShop spotlights and Pixel Pro recessed devices. The window displays on the rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, on the other hand, use highly compact iSight spotlights to illuminate the suitcases are if they were precious jewels.
